We are going fishing tomorrow...fishing for Y chromosomes. We are hoping we don't catch any fish. This fishing trip will take 3-5 days before we know what we caught.
They decided to check Jenson's blood to measure the engraftment level of Sydney's cells at day +30, day +60, and day +100. We need the reading to be 100% Sydney each time - no Y chromosomes in the blood.
If he has all X chromosomes in his blood, will it affect his manhood? Yes, we did ask this question. The answer is no, except he could commit the perfect crime as his blood would show as that of a female. Medical miracles.
I am realizing this test brings the same rollercoaster of emotions as scans (PET scans, MRIs)... the emotions of hope, fear, and horrible nerves. It holds the answer to where we are on the journey to healing.
It has been years since these tests have brought good news our way. They have become markers for us of a journey deeper and deeper into the valley. Hopefully this time will be different, and we will finally be able to start our climb out.
