Loving Sister

Sydney is spending time with her brother and making memories. We made "family handprint portraits" with the ink stamp pad last night.

Today she is snuggling with her brother. It is adorable. He is like a newborn - can't talk, sit up, hold his head, has limited expressions, and has trouble focusing with his eyes - but when Sydney got in bed next to him his eyes opened wide as he heard her voice. She is enjoying being next to him and holding his hand.

Sydney is also working on a large outdoor stepping stone for Jenson. We are going to put Jenson's handprint on it in a few hours. She made the same steeping stone with her handprint in January. She has a vision of four stones with handprints in our backyard - one for each person in our family.

The child life specialist talked to her last night about how the brain controls the entire body and when it is not working the body can't work properly. She told her there is nothing we can do to fix it. This morning Sydney said to me, "Mommy, Jenson going to heaven is a good thing! But it will be sad to not have him with our family." She is wise well beyond her five years of life.

Jenson's music therapist Annie helped her write and record a song to Jenson. It is to the tune of "You Are My Sunshine". Here are the lyrics she wrote:

Jenson's Song

Jenson is funny
He's very nice
He makes me happy when we play
You'll never know how much I miss talking to you
I wish we could play today

We have been blessed with two incredible kids.

Kristin

  5. We are praying with you and for you all. How wonderful that you are making hand prints. Soon Jenson will be holding the hand of Jesus, but you will still have his hand to hold in yours whenever you need it.

Nothing about this entire journey has been fair (in fact, it just plain sucks), yet God has His hands on you all and is carrying you through His plan. (Jer. 29:11) It's so frustrating that there is nothing you can do and that there is nothing any of the rest of us can do. Though we have never met, my heart is breaking.

I can't say that I understand what you are going through. You will never, ever get over watching your precious son go through this and eventually handing him over to our Lord. You will be forever changed. Yet you will get THROUGH this in time, and we'll be with you as you do.

If there is anything that I can do help through this process, PLEASE feel free to reach out at any time. My heart and prayers are with you.

  9. I have been following your blog for the past couple of months (Pastor Chris and Tatum used to be our youth pastors here in Iowa) and we are praying for your family and sweet little Jenson. You are such a strong and amazing faith-filled family and that is why God placed this amazing little boy in your life. We will continue to pray for all of you in the days, weeks and months to come. God Bless you all.
