Hearts of Gold

As we are preparing to leave (maybe tomorrow), we all have mixed emotions - excitement about going home, anxiety for Doug and I about our new role as home nurses, joy in knowing our family will be back together, and sadness for Jenson about leaving his "Nurse Friends".

Jenson doesn't look to the surface in picking his favorite nurse friends. They represent all different ethnicities, different ages, and different personality types. Some are spunky doing impromptu dance parties to make him laugh, while others have a quiet caring confidence.

He will miss how they stand outside his door and cheer him on as he takes his 10 syringes of medicines. He will miss having them rub whatever is hurting. He will miss getting hugs from them whenever he had to endure something he didn't like. He will miss delivering special treats to them in the wagon.

The thing I notice about Jenson at the tender age of 3 is his ability to look beyond the physical and spot the most important trait in a person - a "heart of gold".

We have been blessed by Jenson's "Nurse Friends" care, compassion, and love for our boy over the past 4 months. We will never forget the role they have played along this journey and their hearts of gold.
