The Basics

Transplant is like a re-birth. Jenson is re-learning all the basics.

He can now sit up on his own. He flashes a proud smile knowing he has now mastered this task. Next on the list is regaining leg strength so he can stand. Then, we will move on to walking.

He has been on IV nutrition for the past 2 months but it is hard on the liver so he needs to come off it soon. Jenson has two options - start eating or get a feeding tube down his nose. Can you guess which one he picked?


The journey back to food is similar to introducing a baby to food for the first time. First stop - pureed foods and broths. As you can see in the picture, he was very proud of himself for trying soup! We have a long way to go for it to be enough calories to sustain him, but at least it is a start.

Re-learning and re-building is hard but rewarding work.
