On Friday, several boxes of clothes from my friend Denise and her girls arrived for Sydney which is like Christmas in April!!! Today alone she had on 9 different outfits (at one point she came downstairs from her room and was wearing 5 dresses at the same time). To say she's excited is a huge understatement. She's thrilled!
Sydney is also taking tap and ballet class and Saturday was their performance day for parents/friends. When she first started ballet/tap class she wouldn't dance at all and just stood there watching what was happening. We've learned she observes closely until she can do the move really well, and then once she decides she's got it down she dances it really well. She is turning into quite the good dancer who really comes to life during the performance with a huge smile on her face and good dance moves.
Jenson had a pretty good week. We're going on several weeks without major viruses, so are feeling incredibly thankful! He had a few skin flare ups, and one pretty big spit up (which I'm hoping his tummy was a little upset from a minor virus given it only happened once vs this being a precursor to the start of vomitting again due to his disease).
Jenson had his ear/nose/throat doctor appointment on Thursday. With his disease his body overproduces ear wax, so every 3 months he has to have his ears flushed out so doctors can actually see inside his ear to check in case he gets an ear infection. Let's just say this is probably one of Jenson's least favorite things to do.
Doug took him solo this time (last time over Christmas we went together and it's really hard trying to hold him down as he's squirming everywhere trying to escape and listen to him screaming and crying as the doctor flushes his ears out with water and picks the ear wax out). We're very fortunate to have a really good ENT doctor.
Doug deserves "father of the year" for taking him solo in my opinion. He said it definitely went better than last time as the doctor gave us drops to soften the wax to put in his ears before this appointment, and he said it helped a lot so Jenson wasn't crying/squirming as much this time. So that is good news.
Today Jenson said "Old MacDonald". Doug and I looked at each other and said "did he just say what I think he said?". Too cute. Then tonight when I was putting Jenson to bed and said "good night" he said back "night". He's also been practicing standing a lot more lately. He's really growing up.
Tomorrow will be the roller coaster of emotions that every chemo Monday brings. But we have much to be thankful for.
Kristin
