Playful Butterfly

The butterfly sightings continue almost daily.  Doug asked me, "Do you think they were always around and you are just paying more attention now?".  Possibly, but I think it goes deeper.

Last week Sydney and I were outside.  She was riding her hot pink Razor down our sidewalk.  She was just learning how to go down an incline and turn a corner.  Our house is a corner lot and our sidewalk has a slight incline, so it was the perfect place to learn.  Monarch butterflies kept flying around her as she would increase her distance (almost like cheering her) and then one landed on the maple tree in our front yard.

Sydney had never seen a monarch butterfly up close, so she put down her Razor and headed for the tree.  She curiously stood looking at three little butterflies admiring their intricate beauty.  One of them, the one right at her level, stayed still on the tree as Sydney got closer and closer.  It let her gently touch and even stroke it's wing with her little finger for several minutes.  It then flew playfully around Sydney and me and landed again on our tree.  Sydney would gently stroke it's wing again for a couple minutes, and then the butterfly would dance around Sydney and me before landing back on our tree.

Then something even more unusual happened as the butterfly started landing on us - first on Sydney's arm, then her back, then my back, then my hip.  As the butterfly would change spots, it would flutter around dashing between the two of us.  We played for over 30 minutes with this beautiful butterfly with huge smiles on our faces - this beautiful, playful butterfly.
