Jenson is on our hearts – apparently he is still
touching other people’s too. My
friend Melissa sent me a note on Saturday sharing a fun experience.
Their family was going to the Potbelly sandwich shop on
Lemmon Ave. This event triggered a
memory for Melissa. The last time she
went to this sandwich shop, she picked up sandwiches to take to the hospital. It was the Sunday when Sydney and Jenson were
hospitalized at the same time (Jenson was terminal and Sydney was having her
scary post-concussion symptoms). I was
losing my mind.
Melissa was thinking about that as she reached down to
grab her little girl Vivi’s hand. A
butterfly (small monarch) flew around Vivi, then by her face, then back down,
then flew down by the rocks, and then was gone.
It immediately made her think of Jenson.
She got back in the car and was telling her husband Chip
about the butterfly encounter. She said “I bet it was Jenson.” Her four year old boy Mac, strapped in his
carseat in the back, asked what she was
talking about. She explained to him when
she sees butterflies, she thinks it is Jenson’s way of saying hello.
Mac said, “It is Jenson.”
Melissa said to Mac “That’s what I think too.”
Then Mac said, “NO mom it IS Jenson” as though it is a fact.
They then went back and forth a couple of time on “yes
that is what I believe” from Melissa and an adamant “it IS Jenson” from four
year old Mac each time.
Mac went on to tell them that when they see butterflies flap their
wings, it is Jenson waving to us.
Mac didn’t know this, but Jenson always loved to wave. He would wait outside for me to get home from
work and greet me with his signature straight up and down wave. He loved to watch family and friends drive
off from our house and wave his signature wave as they drove away.
Jenson loved to wave. He is just waving in a slightly different way now.
