Our oncologist works some magic and gets us in with the orthopaedic doctor first thing this morning. She gets a gold star for the week.
Jenson continues to cover his arm with his bunny to protect it. We have to move bunny because the nurse needs to remove the splint so the doctor can see his arm. This leads to a panicked cry by Jenson.
She is slowly and gently taking the splint off and he says, "You're hurting me. Be careful." Ohhh, my poor sweet little boy. She's being as careful as possible but even the slightest movement sends excruciating pain throughout his body.
The doctor takes a look. He tells us normally for kids they won't have pain with a splint and would wait to cast it, but because of the amount of lesions around his break his case is different. They decide to do the cast this morning.
We tell him he can pick his color. Orange. Well, at least he's ready for Halloween.
Putting the cast on is very painful for him. Lots of tears and screams of pain, especially when they have to squeeze his arm to shape it.
It is done. He has a cast and at least for now says it feels better.
The next week will bring about a major adjustment as he gets used to this big "thing" on his arm. He'll have to learn how to walk again as he gets used to balancing with something of this weight.
This break is really hard. It's such a visible physical reminder or how fragile his body is, but worse than that he is now further robbed of his independence. It breaks our hearts!
We'll be back in a week for more x-rays. Hopefully it will start healing between the cast and chemo to help with the lesions. Healing please.
Fred and are a praying for Jenson and your whole family. I admire your strength so much. I wish there was something I could do for you other than pray.
