We saw the allergist today and had Jenson tested for several things... 1) soy 2) chickpeas 3) lentils 4) peanuts
Good news is he's negative on all the above except potentially soy. The soy test had a small reaction (not a severe one) so he wants us to have extra blood drawn during Jenson's next chemo appointment when they are doing the blood draws anyway to have the blood examined given his history and the mild reaction today.
He said based on the skin test, the soy allergy should not be "life-threatening" aka won't cause his airways to be shut off, but my big question was even if it's not typically classified as a "severe allergy" wouldn't even a minor allergy that triggers your body to overfire be exacerbated by his LCH condition which already causes an overfiring of white blood cells? If that is the case, it would make it life threatening (just in a different kind of way vs for more people).
The bottom line is they don't know for sure given his case is so rare. Ugh! The unknown can sometimes drive you crazy with this disease.
I posted on the HAA (Histiocytosis Association of America) message board to see if anyone has any experience with this. In the meantime, more waiting to have the blood drawn on Monday and wait for the results.
Sometimes my hunches may seem a little out there but so far my mom's instinct has been right with really watching what is going on with my little guy and pushing the doctors when needed.
