Butterflies Fly Away

I have butterflies on the brain.  Butterflies, butterflies, butterflies.

Butterflies are everywhere - in the mail, in our backyard, at Jenson's gravesite, on Sydney's back to school outfit (which she of course picked out herself).

A butterfly in the mail?  That one deserves an explanation.

"Beads of Courage" is a special program for oncology kids where they get a strand of black string, the letters of their name, and different "beads of courage" for all the not-so-fun stuff that comes with the journey - a red bead for blood transfusions, a rainbow colored bed for therapy sessions, a "bumpy" bead for loss of mobility, a special hand blown glass bead for bone marrow transplant, and a whole host of other beads that symbolize bravery along the way.  Jenson had hundreds of beads.

The butterfly bead is the bead you don't know exists until it comes your way.  We got ours in the mail a couple weeks after Jenson passed away.  It is the size of an actual butterfly: a beautiful multi-colored butterfly made of blown glass.

Butterflies.

Last week I was on a walk and a white butterfly fluttered around my head in a playful way.  Then it flew away.  It brought to mind a sweet memory of Jenson:

Dancing, Singing, Laughing
...Sydney and Jenson love the song "Party in the USA", so we cranked up the volume and danced and sang away. Sydney came up with some new dance moves. Jenson is a human radio just like Sydney and me. He sang along..."I got my hands up, they're pwaying my song, butterfwies fwy away". (actual pronunciation: they're playing my song, butterflies fly away).

Butterflies serve as a reminder my sweet boy has been transformed.  As the Bible says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."

Butterfwys fwy away.

  1. I found your blog through Love Bomb and have continued to have you in my thoughts and prayers. A friend shared this video today, and I thought of you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUTwNySfTfk&feature=youtu.be

It's very raw but beautiful, about another family who lost their little boy and how their little boy changed their lfie.
