The stomach pain is moving in waves. The good news is the pain is moving which means no appendix issue. The bad news is, there is still pain. It has made it's way around each part of his belly like the hands of a clock slowly ticking it's way around. What is causing it? Could it be the disease flaring up? Could it be the chemo (even though he had it before this treatment started)? It could be either one or both or something completely different. More medical mysteries.
The fevers are coming in waves. You can see as a new wave hits him. He "need sit on your lappy" and "need bunny" - his normal comforts. Tylenol helps him feel better about 30 minutes later.
There are the waves of "I sick. I not feel good." These waves have been hitting all week and weekend. Poor little guy. They are likely waves of nausea or just sheer tiredness from the treatment this past week.
This week he also had waves crashing into his ears. He had to have his ears cleaned out earlier this week (think of someone shooting water from a dentist's high pressure water gun into your ears and removing the gunk with a pair of precision plyers). It also means we have to give him ear drop antibiotics several times a day. He hates having water dripped into his ears and crys out everytime, "No hurt me daddy. No hurt me mommy". He then has us rub his ears for 20-30 minutes after to make them feel better.
"In the sun or the rain, I will celebrate."
A time to celebrate. Jenson turns three! We decided to celebrate Saturday since he was at the hospital most of the day Friday.
He wanted just his family at his birthday party. We all rode the waves with him. When Jenson felt good, we laughed with him. When he felt sick, we comforted him. When he felt sad, we loved on him and tried to help him find something to help him feel better. We discovered he loved it when Sydney would make his new remote controlled car go in circles and then crash into the wall. There were a lot of donuts and wall crashing.
Jenson's favorite part of his party was a wave - a wave of candy from his Cars pinata that came crashing down on the floor. Pure joy.
We have much to be thankful for... Jenson has been with us for three years. We are blessed to have his resilient, joyful personality in our lives. A person who keeps getting up despite getting knocked down by the waves of life.
Our daily glimpse into what strength really looks like.
