Our parents gave Doug and me the gift of some much needed time away. They watched the kids Sat-Wed while we flew to California and visited our "old turf".
We planned our days around our favorite restaurants and basically "ate our way" through the bay area. The food did not disappoint. Sushi, Indian, Gourmet sandwiches. Yummy!
We also had a chance to enjoy one dinner with friends and another with family. Doug's aunt and uncle graciously hosted us again at their place in Sonoma wine country.
More than anything, we enjoyed spending time with each other and being able to completely finish our sentences (those of you who have young kids know exactly what I mean by this statement). :-)
I had to work on Tues-Wed, but Doug was able to go on one of his old hikes he used to do with Jenson. He said it definitely brought "mixed emotions"... good memories of the beauty of the hikes and having Jenson on his back but sadness too that despite the time that has passed Jenson is still facing major health issues.
Today was an instant reminder of those health issues. We had to do a CT scan to try to figure out what is causing his "very abnormal pet scan results on his legs" to quote the doctor. Those words instantly give you a pit in your stomach.
I pushed on the MRI (given it requires anethesia) and we settled on doing a CT where Doug and I would help hold him still. You only need them to be still for 15 seconds to get the picture. Easier said than done with a 2 1/2 yr old.
At first we tried to strap him down completely (from the neck down) but it was obvious that wasn't going to work. We unstrapped his feet, and Doug held those still at one end of the machine. I stood at the other end and held Jenson's hands and kissed his forehead as we counted to 20 several different times. We managed to get it in 2 tries.
So now, we await the results...God please let them not be another major issue for our sweet boy.
