Jenson had chemo Monday, and I have to say this has definitely been one of the better chemo weeks we've had in a while! The appointment went really smooth with no major meltdowns and less waiting than normal. He's also not acting like he's feeling as bad with this round.
The doctor did tell us his red blood cell count is low and was asking a lot about his diet. Jenson loves yogurt and milk (and not much else except to eat my soup when I'm eating it) and the doctor told us we really need to expand his diet because his red blood cell counts are looking low, and he's starting to get concerned about low iron levels. We learned too much milk/dairy can interfere with iron absorption.
So, we've really been focusing on getting him to eat our homemade soups at least once a day (twice if possible) and trying to load him up with the lentil one with spinach and the soups with chicken in them as well.
They're going to schedule his next scope/biopsy sometime after his next chemo treatment on Sept 8, so hopefully by the end of September we will know more about how he's doing and whether he need to continue with chemo. I'm REALLY HOPING we can stop chemo before this cold/flu season as he's at such a heighten risk of infection as long as we're getting treatments and every fever is an automatic visit to the hospital.
Keep praying for a miracle! Thanks.
Kristin
